What was your fitness, CrossFit, or yoga "life" like before you started training with True Spirit CrossFit & Yoga?
I was running several times per week. All long slow distances. No tempo pacing, strengthening, or drills, just long slow distances. I was bored with sore knees.
What brought you to True Spirit CrossFit & Yoga in the first place?
My boyfriend, Derek, suggested CrossFit to help him rehab from an ACL surgery. I helped him research the gyms in town and was impressed by Leslie's mission through TSY&C. Decided to check out the free intro and haven't looked back.
What was your first impression? Has that changed?
First impression was that everyone is elite and I was a total newbie. I have since learned everyone has their own goals and challenges. The gym is willing to meet each person where they are at. Everyone is equally whooped by the end of each class.
What was the first fun or positive thing you experienced while training with us?
I had no interest in lifting or barbell work and it is equally fun and empowering.
Are you working on any special CrossFit related skill now?
I think I would float away with giddiness if I did a pull-up. Like a real one. From the bottom. But for now my eyes are set on toes to bar. Baby steps.
How has you life changed since training with TSCF?
I now regularly wake up about ten minutes before my alarm goes off, I have a smile when I walk into work, and am productive at home at the end of the day. I signed up for this to improve my running. I never expected it to impact my daily life.
What's your favorite True Spirit CrossFit memory?
I remember one morning practicing rope climbing. Was feeling pretty good so decided to do one more stand, and then another. Leslie was right there screaming and I just couldn't even stop if I wanted to. Up, up, up to the top. Such a badass feeling. If you haven't had the privilege of being coached by Leslie or her team you are missing out.
