HEATHER “RED FEATHER”
1. What was your fitness, CrossFit, or yoga "life" like before you started training with True Spirit CrossFit & Yoga?
I had been CrossFitting for several years and also practicing and teaching yoga when I joined True Spirit in 2015. Leslie and I had the blessing of completing our yoga teacher training and certification courses with Nancy Ruby, a prominent yoga teacher in the Bozeman community.
2. What brought you to True Spirit CrossFit & Yoga in the first place?
I was looking for a new CrossFit home and interested in expanding my yoga offerings at the time. I chose True Spirit because of Leslie and her mindful, wholistic, very yogic approach to CrossFit, meaning you don't always have to go harder, stronger, faster every workout. Showing up and giving your best effort for any given day is enough, and you are enough. True Spirit coaches and members felt supportive and accepting of me, a full-time professional and part-time CrossFitter.
3. What was your first impression? Has that changed?
The coaches and members genuinely care about you and your success and well-being in and outside of the gym. My first impression has only been strengthened during my time here.
4. What was the first fun or positive thing you experienced while training with us?
Right now, this time of year, is my favorite time to be a part of True Spirit because of Femme Fatale week and the CrossFit Open. Last February was my first Femme Fatale week and it's something very special and unique. It's a challenging week of grueling 'girls' workouts. You are sure to do something special and learn more about yourself. Same goes for the 5-week CrossFit Open that follows shortly after.
5. Are you working on any special CrossFit related skill now?
I am always working on improving and being able to do more pull-ups. I just completed the 4-week Row'd Royalty competition which significantly helped me improve my rowing technique. I'm also participating in the Whole Life Challenge and focusing on consistent and mindful nutrition choices with the support of our amazing team.
6. How has you life changed since training with TSCF?
No matter how exhausted or drained or beat up from the work day I am, I know I just need to get myself into the door at True Spirit and everyone's smiling faces will help make everything else fade away. Also, Leslie makes me lift heavier than I would on my own which feels pretty awesome at times. I have gained more confidence in my physical and mental abilities since joining TSCFY.
7. What's your favorite True Spirit CrossFit memory?
So many! All of the Friday Night Lights workouts during the 2016 Open, such inspiring energy week after week, and a fun intramural competition. Partner deadlifts at the Night of the Living Deadlift Halloween lifting and costume party. Coach Heidi's Saturday morning smackdowns including a high volume press with all kinds of barbell squats workout. Completing 'Fran' Rx'd for my first time ever!
