Strong Jake watches three strong ladies row. Tami and Sarah K. are both doing the Fall 2015 Whole Life Challenge. How's this week's lifestyle challenge going for you?
Welcome to Week 4! Great job, everyone; we’re nearly half way there! In my mind, this challenge is really just another way to approach mindfulness, which we started way back in week one with meditation. Have you continued your practice of sitting every day? If not, here is another opportunity to explore the inner workings of your mind. With television, smart phones, and tablets, we trained ourselves to need constant entertainment. Now we addicts, always needing that next fix of sensationalism. Use this challenge to take just a few minutes out of every day to focus just on what is in front of you: a meal. This could be a chance to connect with friends, family, or co-workers. It could also be an opportunity for a quiet moment to yourself. What does the food you are eating really taste like? Explore the complexities of the tastes you are experiencing. What textures are present and how do they interact with the tastes? This will probably not be easy. We are all primed to get the food into our system with minimal interaction so that we can get back to the “really important stuff” in our busy lives. Last week I talked about the sacred trinity of health, comprised of proper sleep, proper nutrition, and proper movement. What could be more important to you than paying attention to the food that fuels you? It is one of your all-starts in returning to or maintaining good health. Without good health, how much of that “really important stuff” will you be able to do? Excellent work, everyone. We are moving into the part of the Challenge that threatens us with burn-out. It’s time to rely on the skills we have built up to this point to over-come that. Stay mindful, rely on your teammates, and avoid exhaustion by getting proper sleep. Good luck!
