Today's Whole Life Challenge weekly lifestyle challenge is to do something you love. This is an important concept in behavior change, and I think it is one of the most valuable lifestyle challenges we will do. I use this all the time in health coaching for one very simple reason: If you do not enjoy something, you will probably not continue to do it. This may start small. The first time, you’ll only let it slide “this one time”. Pretty soon, however, your determination dwindles and your one-time slide is now an avalanche. To prevent this, part of my job as your health coach would be to find ways of achieving your goals with enjoyable behaviors. Do you hate lifting weights but running keeps you excited and coming back for more? Let’s start by meeting your physical activity goals with running and then maybe we can branch out into exercises that will support your runs. I use exercise in this example, but the same principle applies no matter what type of behavior you are trying to modify. This is our second to last week of the Whole Life Challenge. It can be hard to tough out the last days, and this is a common point to throw in the towel. If this is happening to you, do you have a way to connect your WLC activities to things you enjoy? Trying to find enjoyable ways of getting all your points may be the boost you need to finish out strong.
