50% of the people in this photo will not respond to you on social media this week. How much time do you spend on social media every day?
This week's Whole Life Challenge lifestyle challenge is to take a social media blackout. Every day this week we are to completely abstain from connecting to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat or any other app that connects us impersonally to the lives and opinions of the people in our lives. The folks at the Whole Life Challenge think this is an important lifestyle practice because, "Social media can become a wormhole where we lose time and energy. Consider this week’s practice to be a temporary test. Use it as an experiment to determine if social media is a positive input (or outlet) in your life. You may discover by day three that you feel a sense of relief or are generally less pressed for time. You may feel less anxious because you’re no longer reading some of the negative or stressful stories that get shared. Or, you may indeed find you’re missing certain connections in your life. But by taking a break you’ll become more aware of the positive and negative influences of social media and decide for yourself how you want to spend your time online and how much of your time you want to spend online. Consider this week a “detox” and then decide the elements you want to reintroduce into your life in a healthy way." I love the Whole Life Challenge for many reasons. The mindfulness and awareness of the consequences of our choices that is my favorite element of the WLC. Too often in live we are completely unaware of how we act. We are constantly reacting to things rather than mindfully responding to things. Good luck this week developing a keen awareness of the impact of social media on your health, happiness and productivity.
