Mama Noah is looking totally amazing in those tiger pants. You might say she has the eye of the tiger.
Sprouts Dinner Club Famous Broccoli Soup
We made this soup during the summer when broccoli was ripe in the garden and served it at room temperature. It would work just as well with that big bag of frozen organic broccoli from CostCo and served warm. Serve with some grilled protein and you have an outstanding meal.
The next Sprouts Dinner Club is Sunday, Oct 16th. Be sure to RSVP today!
  • Take 1-2 large heads of broccoli. Lop off the stems, peel them (feed peelings to worms), and small dice the stem flesh.
  • Measure the diced broccoli stems and dice an equal amount each of carrot, onion, and celery. Save the scraps from these veggies to make stock later.
  • Get your soup pan hot and melt butter in the bottom. Saute all your veggies until tender and translucent, but don't really brown them.
  • Mince a lot of garlic. Like a whole bulb.
  • Toss that in with the veggies and stir to cook until it smells good enough to eat. Reduce the heat to low and get ready to do math.
  • Look at the amount of broccoli and guess how much liquid is needed to fill the pot to 2/3 under the top of the broccoli.
  • Let's say it's 4 cups. Add 1 cup of olive oil and 2 cups of water, veggie stock, or chicken stock. Whatever you have on hand. The exact ratio isn't critical, but it's about 25% oil. That's what makes it delicious.
  • Salt a little bit, and sprinkle in some crushed red pepper flakes. Just a few. It shouldn't be hot, you are just adding depth. Probably about a half teaspoon.
  • Cook until really tender and the broccoli starts to fall apart.
  • Puree until creamy with a stick blender.
  • Squeeze in a couple of lemons and about a tablespoon of anchovy paste.
  • Adjust all the flavors as needed, adding more lemon, salt, pepper, anchovy, spice--whatever--until you like it.
  • Top with shaved Parmesan and enjoy!
Today's Workout
The Seven
7 rounds for time of:
7 Handstand Push Ups
7 Thrusters, 135/95 lbs
7 Knees To Elbows
7 Deadlifts, 245/175 lbs
7 Burpees
7 Kettlebell Swings, 2/1.5 pood
7 Pull-ups

Today's workout is a hero workout honoring the seven people killed when a suicide bomber, posing as a potential informant reporting on Al Qaeda, attacked a remote base in southeastern Afghanistan on December 30, 2009. Seven new stars are etched onto the memorial wall at the CIA where every star represents grieving friends, family and colleagues dedicated to fight against the enemy, forever in their name.

Killed in the attack were CIA officers Jennifer Lynne Matthews, 45; Scott Michael Roberson, 39; Harold E. Brown Jr., 37; Darren LaBonte, 35; Elizabeth Hanson, 30; and security contractors Jeremy Jason Wise, 35, and Dane Clark Paresi, 46.

Today's workout is long, difficult and is meant to make us suffer. That is the purpose of all hero workouts and there's nothing wrong with that. Suffering helps us be more empathetic and compassionate.

Today's workout will take you close to 40 mins to complete. We'll get started after a quick warm-up and a little bit of mobility. This is the first time we've programed The Seven for the gym. Good luck!
