Did our Hypoxia Team inspire you to try a CrossFit competition? Excellent! The CrossFit Games Open starts February 23, and registration opens Jan. 11. 
CrossFit is the sport of fitness, and like any sport it has competitions. Just this past weekend, 3 members of our gym joined a former TSCF coach and competed at the Hypoxia Team Throwdown in Butte. THEY KICKED ASS! 
I love seeing people get fired up to compete in CrossFit. Let's be honest, none of us are going to the CrossFit Games, yet all of us can compete. One of the most fantastic aspects of competition is doing something you couldn't do otherwise. Both Allison and Heather U. achieved personal records (PR) in their front squats. Here's Duane's account of their amazing achievement:
"For the afternoon workouts we did WOD 4 first, then WOD 3. WOD 3 was front squats, 3 Rep Max, with same sex pairs getting 4 minutes to establish that number. Not a lot of time to dink around at weights you know you can do, but instead get to that true max. Fast. Joe and I went first. My best weight in recent months was 255#, so the ladies get it loaded, both Joe and I bust it out quickly to get at least a minimum score. Ladies load all the weight on the bar (limited to 320#), and Joe goes to town, doing 3, then getting 6 bonus reps to add to the final weight. OK, 90 seconds left, I say load it to 275#. Knock it out with 55 seconds left. I say go big, 305# (5 over my best 1 rep max). 30 seconds left. I get two, but lose the third. Alright, no worries 275# + 350#= 625#s. 1 minute reset, then it's the ladies turn..

While warming up they said load 105#s first, we'll get a score, then add ten until we fail or run out of time. 15 seconds before the start, Red Feather says, "Guys, do 115#s! We got this!"


3...2...1... Go! Joe and I load to 115#s. Heather is first, done in like 15 seconds, Allison same thing, done as quick as the judge can count. "Ten More" they say. Done. Heather rocks it. Allison rocks it. "Ten More". Heather is first, and gets 2, then busts out the third. Allison steps up, similarly, gets all three but we are definitely nearing that absolute max. Heather says she's good,  Allison says, "Ten More!" This set looked about the same for her as the previous, and gets all three. About 45 seconds left.

Okay, now I need to provide some perspective... Both ladies said they MIGHT be able to get 125#. For those not keeping track 115+10+10=135+10=145, Heather 135#, Allison 145#. This next part has me SO INSPIRED. My favorite moment ALL day.

45 seconds left, Heather says she wants one more shot. 30 seconds, rack off the bar, one gritty rep, 20 seconds, second gritty rep, with a bit of a struggle the last three inches. Announcer says 10 seconds,  Heather, deep breath or two, down...up..."3 seconds"...still going up, and really pushing the Earth... 2... Almost there... 1... SHE DID IT, SHE NAILED IT! "0," TIMES UP!"

Heather and Allison blew their 3 Rep Max away, and Heather did it in such gritty persevering fashion, I lost it. I hope a camera person got it, because it was AMAZING! We finished third in that event, and ended the day on a super high note.”
As I wrote yesterday, we help people find their power, and Allison and Heather sure found theirs! I hope you are inspired to dig deep like Heather and Allison. What would you do if you weren't afraid to fail? Yep, the impossible. Nice job Hypoxia Team!
