Jeremy set-ups for a Sumo deadlift off some risers. Last week we finished our Spring Whole Life Challenge (congratulations Zach, our first male winner!) and we don't start our next Whole Life Challenge until September. Many of you like the accountability and structure the Whole Life Challenge gives your life. Did you know that Beyond the Whiteboard has a Lifestyle feature that you can use in between Whole Life Challenges to keep you accountable and on track? It sure does, and it's free and easy to use. Win-win! The Lifestyle feature helps you keep track of your sleep, hydration, mobility, nutrition, fish oil consumption and how your body feels. That is 4 of the 7 Whole Life Challenge daily habits. Since sleep, hydration, mobility and nutrition are common to both programs, you can bet that these 4 lifestyle factors have the greatest affect on your health and wellness. Fish oil supplementation used to be included in the Whole Life Challenge. However, it was replaced with sleep in 2017. Fish oil supplementation is super important for eye, brain and muscle health. I take fish oil, vitamin D, zinc, and magnesium daily as these are the most common nutrient deficiencies of North Americans. I take the Puori daily 3 that we have available at the gym. These supplements are an important component of my recovery and wellness routine. I have written plenty about the important of sleep, hydration, mobility and nutrition, these are the big 4 important lifestyle practices to which you should pay attention. With BTWB's Lifestyle feature, now you can track your health. To access the Lifestyle feature, open the app on your phone. You can access it on your computer as well, but I know most of you use the BTWB phone app. Open the app and scroll down until you see Lifestyle. Click on Lifestyle to open the tracking feature. from here it's super easy to quickly score your sleep, how much water you've consumed, how much time you spent on mobility, how you ate, how much fish oil you took and how you feel. Notice the scoreboard at the top of the Lifestyle screen. As you earn daily lifestyle points, you are compared to other people in the gym and all other BTWB users. You can see in the screen below that no one in our gym is currently logging lifestyle points and that the average daily lifestyle point value across all BTWB users is 56 (which is in the 75th percentile.) All of us coaches are frequently asked how to get better at CrossFit, how to lose body fat, how to get stronger and how to just feel better. Our answer is to improve your lifestyle through increased sleep, drinking 1/3 your body weight in ounces of water, eating a Paleo diet (meat, vegetables, nuts & seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar), attending 4 or more CrossFit classes each week and doing mobility daily. Tracking your lifestyle will keep you accountable and give you real data on your choices and health. Lucky for us, BTWB provides us a free and easy tracking method. All you need to do is make good choices and record them. How easy is that? I truly hope the next time I log into the BTWB Lifestyle section I see some points listed under our gym.
