Meet Christina! What was your fitness, CrossFit, or yoga "life" like before you started training with True Spirit CrossFit.
I had always been an active person from a young age. Played soccer my whole life and into college played division 2. There was a lot of training I did but was mainly focused toward soccer. Once I stopped playing competitively I needed to find something else to do. I ran, hiked, did yoga, HIIT, and weightlifting on my own. What brought you to True Spirit CrossFit & Yoga in the first place? I wanted to try CrossFit for years but felt intimidated about going to a "CrossFit gym." I realized that I couldn't keep forcing myself to go do activities that didn't excite me, keep me interested and/or make me want to come back for more (ie. running) so I finally took the plunge to join TSCF. What was your first impression? Very welcoming and not intimidating at all. Focused on individualized workouts to each persons particular strengths, weakness, mobility level etc. What was the first thing fun or positive thing you experienced while training with us? I really have enjoyed learning the olympic lifts especially cleans. I'd never done that type of lifting before and they are movements that combine strength, agility technique etc. Just really fun movements for me. Are you working on any special CrossFit related skill now? I always love to PR but I would be psyched to do my first pull up. I haven't done a pull up in FOREVER. How has you life changed since training with TSCF? I feel more confident in all aspects of life. I feel less concerned about the scale and what I weight. I think especially as women we are constantly feeling pressured from social standards and it's empowering to feel better about myself. I've come to a much healthier mind space than I used to have. It's fantastic to feel strong and healthy going to classes consistently. What's your favorite True Spirit CrossFit memory? It's hard to pick one in particular. My favorite times are when everyone is cheering each other on. I like team WODs too. I just enjoy that sense of team or community.

Kendra does a heavy deadlift. Lifting weights make you bulky. Do cardio to lose weight. Do crunches to reduce belly fat. Do these statements sound familiar? They are all myths that have been debunked so many times, yet persist on the interwebs and are told to us by well meaning friends and family. It can be such a challenge to wade through all of the misinformation out there. every Monday I share with you reliable sources to bust the most persistent myths. Why am I so passionate about this? Because people still ask me what is the best way to get 6 pack abs, or to lose weight, or to be "lean, but not bulky." As long as people keep asking me these questions I will continue to provide you real answers for your real fitness questions. Today I share with a nice and concise video from Science Insider on the top 17 fitness myths. I hope you enjoy watching it. |
